Alaska Overlander Trip Ideas (OVERLANDER Routes & Itineraries)

Adventure Starts with Inspiration

Expedition Kennicott

Travel from Fairbanks into the wild heart of Wrangell St. Elias country on a rugged Alaska overland route built for big scenery, historic mining country and remote backroad camping. This trip follows the road toward McCarthy and Kennicott, with the option to explore the Nabesna Road, the only other road into Wrangell St. Elias. Expect mountain views, glacier country, old Alaska history and a true sense of adventure far beyond the usual tourist route.

Expedition Fjordlander

Expedition Fjordlander is where Alaska road travel meets the sea. Start in Fairbanks, travel south through Denali country, the Mat-Su Valley, Anchorage, Turnagain Arm, Girdwood and Portage Valley, then drive through the Whittier Tunnel and board the Alaska Marine Highway ferry across Prince William Sound. After rolling off in Valdez, continue back north through Thompson Pass, glacier country, Donnelly Dome and the Richardson Highway on your way back to Fairbanks. This self-guided overland route combines highways, campgrounds, fjords, ferries, glaciers, mountain passes, small towns and coastal Alaska scenery into one unforgettable loop. It is the perfect trip for travelers who want more than a rental car - they want an Alaska expedition. *Ferry tickets not included*
