Expedition Fjordlander
Expedition Fjordlander is where Alaska road travel meets the sea. Start in Fairbanks, travel south through Denali country, the Mat-Su Valley, Anchorage, Turnagain Arm, Girdwood and Portage Valley, then drive through the Whittier Tunnel and board the Alaska Marine Highway ferry across Prince William Sound. After rolling off in Valdez, continue back north through Thompson Pass, glacier country, Donnelly Dome and the Richardson Highway on your way back to Fairbanks.
This self-guided overland route combines highways, campgrounds, fjords, ferries, glaciers, mountain passes, small towns and coastal Alaska scenery into one unforgettable loop. It is the perfect trip for travelers who want more than a rental car - they want an Alaska expedition.
